Walsh mourns the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Stephen M. Greenberg. Steve was a giant in the legal profession. He had a distinguished career spanning decades in public service, private practice, and corporate leadership, and his dedication to his faith and support of charitable and community causes was unparalleled. He will be remembered for his intellect, integrity, and commitment to service. Steve is survived by his wife, Sandra; children Seth (Lisa), Sophie (Geoffrey), and Scott; grandchildren Max, Dori, and Abrianna; the many friends, colleagues, and mentees whose lives he touched through his kindness and devotion.

NEWARK, N.J., Sept. 8, 2025 – Walsh Pizzi O’Reilly Falanga LLP is pleased to announce that Partner David D. Cramer has been appointed by the Supreme Court of New Jersey to serve on the District VB Ethics Committee for a four-year term spanning 2025 through 2029.

The District Ethics Committees play a vital role in New Jersey’s attorney disciplinary system, investigating and reviewing grievances filed against lawyers to ensure the profession upholds the highest standards of integrity and public trust. As a member of the District VB Ethics Committee, Cramer will evaluate complaints and participate in hearings regarding professional conduct.

Cramer’s appointment reflects both his professional distinction and his longstanding commitment to the ethical practice of law. At Walsh, he maintains a diverse litigation practice that includes representing clients of all sizes in various industries before state and federal courts and administrative agencies in both New Jersey and New York, focusing on employment law and commercial issues.

Liam Gannon is a rising 2L at Seton Hall University School of Law, where he is a member of the Irish-American Law Student Association, Corporate Law Society, and the Real Estate Law Society. Additionally, he serves on the Executive Boards of Seton Hall’s Rodino Society and St. Thomas More Society.

What made you want to pursue law as a career?
I have always been drawn to the legal profession because of how it values the ability to apply normative legal concepts to everyday situations.   During my first year of law school and this summer at Walsh, I appreciated opportunities to write about complex factual situations through the lens of nuanced case law.

What was your favorite part about working at Walsh?
This summer, I really appreciated the number of attorneys in Walsh’s office here in Newark, who have a variety of specializations, but all possess a passion for the work that they do. Following my first year of law school, it was interesting to witness the complexity of civil procedure in action.  The attorneys I worked with demystified the pre-trial stage by providing guidance on assessment of evidence and preparation for depositions. Since I have not yet taken courses in substantive fields related to my work this summer, I was very grateful for my supervising attorneys’ candid introductions to each matter and the applicable law.

What are you looking forward to next semester?
This fall, I’m excited to dive into substantive courses including Constitutional Law and Business Associations. I am also looking forward to taking leadership roles with the Rodino Society and the St. Thomas More Society at Seton Hall.  Following this hands-on litigation experience this summer at Walsh, I am eager to complete a judicial internship in the coming year.

Matthew Lista is a rising 3L student at Fordham University School of Law, where he is recognized as a Paul Fuller Scholar and serves as the editor of the Cooper-Walsh Colloquium for the Urban Law Journal. He is also on the executive board for the Brendan Moore Trial Advocacy Program and a member of the International Refugee Assistance Project at Fordham.

What made you want to pursue law as a career?
I was interested in some kind of legal career for as long as I can remember. I enjoy helping people solve their complex legal issues while being a zealous advocate on their behalf.

What was your favorite part about working at Walsh?
The people! Everyone in the office is so nice and truly great to work with. As a summer, I particularly appreciated the office culture. Aside from everyone being kind and friendly, the attorneys also made time to chat if I had any questions about what I was working on. Additionally, I really loved the level of trust that everyone had in our ability to do real work and actually refine our skills.

What are you looking forward to next semester?
I am really excited about my fall semester. I am taking some interesting classes that I am looking forward to. Additionally, as the Cooper-Walsh Colloquium editor for Fordham’s Urban Law Journal, I am hosting that event this fall and am excited to host such a wonderful group of individuals for what will surely be an interesting academic discussion.

Cayla Teehan is a rising 4L in the Seton Hall University School of Law weekend program. She has earned Certificates of Excellence in Contracts and Torts and serves as a Senior Editor of the Seton Hall Law Review.

What made you want to pursue law as a career?
I wanted to go to law school after college but wasn’t sure exactly why, so I started working to figure things out before attending school. After working in HR for a few years and working with outside counsel, I realized I wanted to be on the other side of things.

What was your favorite part about working at Walsh?
My favorite part of working at Walsh was being exposed to different areas of the law and working with talented people. In addition to working on a variety of assignments, I had the opportunity to observe multiple depositions and oral arguments both in person and virtually.

What are you looking forward to upon graduating?
Upon graduation, I look forward to clerking in the Appellate Division in New Jersey. I am excited to expand on my research and writing skills.

Walsh Partner Peter J. Pizzi has been awarded the 2025 Richard L. Neumeier Excellence in Service Award by the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC) in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the essential work of the IADC. He was presented the award while attending the 2025 IADC Annual Meeting in Québec City, Canada.

From 2023 to 2025, Peter served as Editor-Elect and Editor of IADC’s Defense Counsel Journal. His commitment to excellence and thoughtful editorial leadership helped shape timely, insightful content for the DCJ. In the President’s note in Peter’s final DCJ issue, IADC President Donna Lamontange praised Peter’s work: “The success of the journal is due in no small measure to the enormous contributions of Editor Peter Pizzi. Peter will roll-off as Editor this year, but he has left his mark and made the DCJ Board of Editors and IADC community stronger with his efforts.”

Peter delighted in the challenge involving in the Editor’s role, as he wrote in his final Editor’s Note: “My DCJ involvement made me realize now how much I enjoy serving as the editor of a journal, coaxing articles out of friends at the bar, panelists encountered at meetings, a valued client or two, lawyers in my own law firm, and entirely new contacts, and then seeing those conversations bear fruit when each issue emerges.”

The International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC) has been serving a distinguished membership of corporate and insurance defense attorneys and insurance executives since 1920. Its activities benefit the approximately 2,500 invitation-only, peer reviewed members and their clients, as well as the civil justice system and the legal profession. Moreover, the IADC takes a leadership role in many areas of legal reform and professional development.

Liam earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in History with a minor in Business Economics from the University of Notre Dame. While at Notre Dame, Liam spent a semester abroad at John Cabot University in Rome, Italy, and interned at both a litigation firm in Morristown and insurance broker in New York. Upon graduation, he taught middle school social studies through a teaching program in Denver, CO.

Prior to law school, Liam worked in the commercial insurance industry, most recently serving as an Assistant Vice President at a leading brokerage firm, where he managed broker-carrier relationships, developed strategic initiatives for carriers, supported business development, and streamlined reporting processes for client deliverables. Previously, he had worked as an Associate at a different brokerage firm in New Jersey.

He is also on the executive board for the Brendan Moore’s Trial Advocacy Program and a member of the International Refugee Assistance Project at Fordham.

Matthew earned his Bachelor of Arts degrees in International Politics and Spanish, with minors in Latin American Studies and Business in Liberal Arts from The Pennsylvania State University, Schreyer Honors College.

His honors thesis focused on the legalization of Indigenous autonomy in Latin America. While at Penn State, Matthew studied abroad in Santiago, Chile, was a Peer Advisor with Penn State Global, and an interned with the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, where he analyzed the relationship between marginalized communities’ interactions with law enforcement and recommended equitable policy solutions.

Prior to beginning law school, he was an Auxiliar de Conversación with C.E.I.P Ramón Pérez de Ayala in Madrid, Spain, where he led lesson plans designated to teach English as a second language to students. Last summer, Matthew was an immigration services intern with Catholic Charities Community Services in New York.

She earned her Master of Business Administration, from Johnson and Wales University and Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in Business from Saint Anselm College.

With over a decade of experience in human resources, Cayla has worked in both corporate and hospitality industries. Her expertise includes employee relations, compliance, compensation, onboarding, leave management (including ADA and FMLA), policy development, and workforce training. She has also supported employment-based visa processes (H-2B, H-1B, TN) and partnered with agencies on international placements (J-1).

Cayla is certified by the Society for Human Resource Management as a Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP).
